GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K.
PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.5. (1st row = WS.) The diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS.
INC:
Inc 4 sts from RS with YO as follows: Inc 1 st inside 1 edge st in each side, inc 1 st before 1st marker and inc 1 st after 2nd marker. NOTE! Do not work YOs twisted on next row, make holes.
Inc 2 sts on every row from WS with YO as follows: Inc 1 st inside 1 edge st in each side.
NOTE! Do not work YOs twisted on next row, make holes.

SHAWL:
Cast on 34 sts on circular needle size 5 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Insert 2 markers in the piece, first marker after 2 sts, second marker when 2 sts remain on row. (1st row = RS) Then work in stocking st with 1 edge st in garter st in each side like this while at the same time INC - SEE EXPLANATION ABOVE. After the first 2 rows 6 sts have been inc and there are 40 sts in total on row. Continue to inc the same way 47 more times = 322 sts on needle (there should be 48 holes along each of the 2 markers). Piece measures approx. 37 cm measured along markers mid back. Stop inc here. K 1 row from RS while AT THE SAME TIME inc 5 sts evenly on each long side, do NOT inc over the middle 30 sts. There are now 332 sts on needle. Then work according to diagram A.1 with 1 edge st in garter st in each side (1st row = WS). Continue with diagram A.2, A.3 and A.4 (last row = RS). To get a nice, rounded edge work diagram A.5 (from WS) - AT THE SAME TIME cast off. Make sure to avoid a tight cast off so that edge is soft and elastic, and not curling. Cut the yarn and fasten.
